Miss Stacy was our guide at the New Market Battlefield, a Civil War site. She started off by telling us a little bit about what life was like as a soldier.
She told us that we looked more like a mob and asked us what we would need to do to look more like an army.
The first thing was to line up. This is battle formation where there are two lines one behind the other.
There was even a line to line up on, for the front row.
She had us do a little drilling - left face, eyes forward and then right face, whereupon we walked, not marched - too hard on the knees - into the museum building.
