Author's Party

Grandma runs a Writing Workshop for the younger kids in the home school group and A. runs one for the older kids.  Every semester or so the students select one story to edit and spruce up for presentation. This was J's first Author's Party.
J. did a story about the Wizard of Oz.
D. did one on the Birth of Jesus.
The children also learned manners, invited their parents to come in and sit down.  After the program was over and everyone had presented their stories they invited the parents to enjoy refreshments which included grapes, carrots and "ants on a log" .

Writing Group Nativity

Every year at Christmas time my Mom's writing group does a Nativity featuring the students in her class. She narrates and the students follow along.

There is usually some competition to be Mary and this year it was settled by straws.

Firestation

Oct 15 the Junior Writing Workshop went to the local fire station. Above is the Fire Chief's office, full of all sorts of toys and doo-dads that have to do with fire stations.

The rack of firemen clothes near the trucks.

The nice fireman helping Janet get down from looking inside one of the trucks.

Four of the students on the back of a fire truck.

One of the original city fire trucks.

J. next to the tire of the newest fire truck, custom made for the city.

One of the kids asked how the fire plugs worked. This fireman is demonstrating on a dry fire plug just how they check to make sure the connections are clear before they turn it on with the handle on the top. Different colored tops tell the firemen how much water pressure is in the plug.

The Three Bears #2

Same story, new cast. Above, the narrator.

Goldilocks

Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Baby Bear - they go on a walk

Goldilocks tries the food.

Goldilocks tries the chairs.

Goldilocks tries the beds.

The Bears come back.

The chair is broken!

Someone has been sleeping in the beds.

She is still here. And Goldilocks runs away.

The Three Bears #1

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Goldilocks.

There were also three bears, the Papa Bear (right), the Mama Bear (middle) and the Baby Bear (left). They all tasted their porridge and decided it was too hot. So they went for a walk while their food cooled.

While they were gone, Goldilocks came into their house after knocking. She was hungry. She tried the food. The Papa Bear's food was too hot. Mama Bear's food was too cold. Baby Bear's food was just right so she ate it all up.

Then she tried the chairs. Too hard, too soft and just right. But the chair broke, so she went to the beds.

She tried the Papa Bear's bed - too hard. The Mama Bear's bed was too soft. Baby Bear's bed was just right so she fell asleep.

The bears came home. "Who has been eating my porridge?" "Who ate all my porridge?" asked the Baby Bear.

"Who has been sitting in our chairs?"

"Who broke my chair?" asked the Baby Bear.

"Who has been sleeping in our beds?" "Who is sleeping in my bed?" asked Baby Bear. And Goldilocks woke up and ran away, never to be seen by the bears again.
